YBP - On January 15 (according to the lunar calendar), thousands of people and tourists visit the historic cultural monument area of Nam Cuong pagoda, temple, communal house in Yen Bai City. It is believed to be the convergence of Vietnamese cultural characteristics.
Nam Cuong Commune in Yen Bai City was formed by people from Nam Dinh province in 1903. According to the old people in the commune, Nam Cuong was formerly a sacred place of sacred water. In order to pray for the welfare of the people, in 1923, Mau Temple was built to worship Holy Mother Linh Tu. In 1933, the council of elderly people in the commune returned to Kiep Bac Temple in Hai Duong province to receive the incense sticks of Hung Dao Dai Vuong and the incense of Princess Lieu Hanh in Phu Giay Temple in Nam Dinh to worship at Mau Nam Cuong temple.
Mau Temple, Nam Cuong Communal House, Van Thang Pagoda were built in the group of historical and spiritual relics of Nam Cuong Commune and became cultural institutions, attached to people's life. Here, many cultural activities of the people, especially the Mau Temple Festival held on the full moon every January.
Throughout the ups and downs of history, Nam Cuong Mau Temple, Communal House, Pagoda are not only places for national security, places where village meetings are held, but also in the war time, Viet Minh cadres mobilized the masses to seize power back to the revolutionary government (August 1945), the headquarters of the commune government from the beginning, as a food stockpile, the stop of some units when entering to liberate Dien Bien Phu, a class in the resistance war against French colonialism, the place where the youths in the commune went out to join the army.
During the war against the United States, the buildings were heavily destroyed. In 1998, according to the aspirations of local people, the Mau temple was embellished. Then, the Communal House, Van Thang Pagoda were also embellished by people
Mau Temple festival is divided into two parts: Part of the ceremony and Activities.
The ceremony is held for fresh lush crop, avoiding natural disasters, the health, the life with full of happiness. …After the ceremony, all villagers, especially young men and women, will participate in the festival with many cultural activities and sports such as boat racing, incense offering, badminton, chess...
The festival lasts until the evening of the full moon day of January, with the repertoire of the people in Nam Cuong commune. Especially, the flower dropping ceremony is held at the lake in front of the Nam Cuong temple, Pagoda with the participation of many people.
On 16/8/2005, the People's Committee of Yen Bai province issued Decision No.275/QĐ -UBND recognizing Nam Cuong temples, communla house and pagodas as provincial historical and cultural vestiges.
