A ceremony to recognize Ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees as Vietnam’s heritage tree was held in Sung Do commune, Van Chan district, Yen Bai province by the Vietnam Association for the Conservation of Nature and Environment (VACNE) on September 23.
Local representative received the certificate recognizing Ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees as Vietnam’s heritage trees.
The population of 100 ancient Shan Tuyet tea trees in the hamlets of Giang Pang and Lang Manh of Sung Do commune are grown naturally. Many of them have the roots of between 0.8 and 1.2 meter in diameter. They are grown in an area of 70ha at an altitude of over 1,600m on Hoang Lien Son Mountain Range in the Northern region.
The favorable geography, terrain, and weather conditions have been the key to the development of tea trees which produce the Shan Tuyet variety.
The trees, along with natural landscape and cultural traits of the H’ Mong ethnic people, are hoped to bolster ecological and exploratory tourism in Sung Do commune in the coming time, thus opening up a new development path for locals.
