On December 15th, delegation of FAO in Vietnam led by Mr. Remi Nono Womdim visited and greeted the leader of Yen Bai province. Mr. Nguyen The Phuoc –StandingVice Chairman of Yen Bai PPC received the delegation.
Mr. Phuoc presented Mr. Remi Nono Womdim a picture book of Yen Bai land and people.
Mr. Phuoc thanked FAO for caring and supporting Yen Bai province for the past years. Mr. Phuoc also highly appropriated programme and projects of FAO in Vietnam in general and Yen Bai province in particular which has contributed developing economy, reducing poverty and enhancing the quality of people life.
The Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee informed about the potentials and strengths of Yen Bai province in developing cinnamon trees and processing cinnamon essential oil. With the development goal of the province “green development-harmony-identity and happiness” Yen Bai province wanted FAO to support the province to maximize the effectiveness of the forest economy, especially economic development under the forest shadow with the policy of developing medicinal plants, beekeeping, eco-tourism... as well as buildand maintain effective chain links in agro-forestry production, developing FSC plantations.
Mr. Phuoc also confirmed that the province continues to develop cooperaties and cooperative groups in forest sector so he wanted FAO to continue supporting Yen Bai province to improve its agro-forestry production capacity, not only to ensure food security, but also to direct export of key products (including cinnamon products of the province) to improve production value, reduce poverty and enrich the people.
On behalf of the delagation, Mr. Remi Nono Womdim - Chief Representative of FAO in Vietnam thanked Yen Bai provincial leaders for warmly welcome for the delegation. Mr. Remi Nono Womdim told that Yen Bai province has had a good initiative in agricultural and forestry production, there has been a link between farmers into cooperatives and cooperative groups. Yen Bai province also issued suitble plan on planting cinnamon trees, processing essential cinnamon oil. FAO also will study to invest and support Yen Bai province to develop the aricultural and forest sector.
