The scenic beauty of Mu Cang Chai terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai district is classified as a special national relic according to Decision No.1954/QD-TTg dated December 31, 2019 by the Prime Minister. Terraced fields are considered as a type of farming, harmoniously combining the two methods of wet-field farming and shifting cultivation, zoned for protection in 6 communes in the district including: La Pan Tan, Che Cu Nha, De Xu Phinh, Kim Noi, Mo De and Lao Chai. Terraced fields are a typical cultural heritage, converging the historical, economic, cultural and social values of the Mong people in Yen Bai province, demonstrating the extraordinary level of creativity and labor in conquering the nature, bringing a prosperous and happy life for local residents.
The new rice celebration of the Mong people in Mu Cang Chai district was included in the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in Decision No.824/QD-BVHTTTDL dated March 9, 2021. New rice celebration is an important traditional agricultural ritual associated with the religious and spiritual life of the Mong people in Mu Cang Chai. This is an agricultural ritual that both contains deep spiritual meaning and shows the respect and gratitude of descendants to gods, ancestors and grandparents. The new rice celebration is also a form of public recognition of the homeowner after a year of doing business and praying to the gods, grandparents, and ancestors to bless the family with favorable rain and wind all year round, avoiding epidemics, having good harvest and the family has good health.
