YBP - Within the framework of the visit and working trip to Japan, the Yen Bai provincial delegation led by Mr. Tran Huy Tuan - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, visited the Komekurayama Energy Storage Technology Research Area (touring the P2G system) in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan.
The Yamanashi prefecture is currently leading in hydrogen and fuel cell research. The Japanese government considers hydrogen an important technological resource for the carbon neutralization process, allowing carbon removal in various sectors such as transportation, power generation and industry, with the expectation that fuel cell technology will have practical applications on a wide scale. This is a hub for world-class fuel cell and hydrogen research centers, including the Nano Materials Fuel Cell Research Center of Yamanashi University, which is actively researching the production and use of green hydrogen to achieve carbon neutrality.
Yamanashi prefecture has collaborated with several private companies to develop hydrogen production technologies and their practical applications. In June 2021, a green hydrogen production facility using renewable energy-powered Power-to-Gas (P2G) technology began producing green hydrogen from renewable electricity at the Energy Storage Technology Research Park in Kofu city, Yamanashi prefecture.
During the visit and work of the delegation, Mr. Kunugi, a technician from the Enterprise Management Bureau, introduced the delegation to the Power-to-Gas (P2G) system. In September 2021, public-private regional partners established the Yamanashi Hydrogen Energy Association (H₂-YES) to collaborate with several private companies to develop large-scale P2G systems and promote technologies for utilizing and transforming energy demand.
In February 2022, Yamanashi prefecture and the private sector established the Yamanashi Hydrogen Company. This is the first P2G business company in Japan. The company is accelerating progress towards practical applications by further developing the P2G system technology and increasingly focusing on turning carbon neutrality into a reality.
