YBP - The provincial agriculture restructure project has set objectives for the management, protection, development and efficient use of land planned for forestry; raising the value of production, added products value and forest environment services
Yen Bai province strives for the development of concentrated Bat Do bamboo shoots by 2020 with the scale over 10,000 ha. After 2 years of implementing the restructuring of the agriculture sector in the forestry sector, the forestry sector has clearly defined the structure of forests for management, protection and development in accordance with current regulations.
At the end of the year, the province has over 462,527 ha of forest land. Forest coverage in the province in 2017 reached 62.8%.
The province has formed the cinnamon area of over 66,000 ha, Bat Do bamboo shoots area of 3,700 ha, and Son Tra area of 5,000 ha.
The forestry sector also aims to increase the productivity of natural forests as production forests by 20 - 25% compared to previous years, with the average growth rate of 4-5 m3/ha. The productivity and quality of planted forests have also been improved. The area of planted forest is stable and exploited every year from 10,000 to 15,000 hectares, with a large timber reserve of 120-150 m3/ha and small timber of 70 - 80 m3/ha.
On average, every year, the province exploits and sells 450,000 m3 of planted forest timber of all kinds; 96,000 tons of bamboo for processing in and outside the province, over 10,800 tons of dry cinnamon bark and processes and consumes 300 tons of cinnamon essential oil, over 394 tons of pine resin and 100 thousand tons of bamboo shoots of all kinds.
In addition to improving the quality of forests, the sector is well placed to carry out state management of forest seeds which ensure more than 80 million seedlings of primary forest trees for afforestation cultivated.
The sector has formed a network of production and supply of forest seedlings in the direction of socialization with participation of many economic sectors under the strict management and supervision on the quality of the state management agencies.
The allocation of land and forests shall be concentrated in the areas of small and scattered protective forests (less than 500 hectares) so that the population communities, households at their places and organizations and individuals shall invest in product development to improve production efficiency of the forest.
The provincial agriculture restructure project has set objectives for the management, protection, development and efficient use of land planned for forestry; raising the value of production, products added value and forest environment services.
To achieve this objective, the forestry sector continues to manage, protect, develop and use productive forests, protective forests and specially-used forests, to focus on the development of productive forests in the direction of applying advanced application on seeds to increase the output and value of wood materials for processing and export.
By 2020, the sector strives to develop cinnamon area of 70,000 hectares or more, the concentrated Bat Do bamboo shoots over 10,000 hectares; expand the production area Son Tra under the canopy of concentrated protective forests with a scale of over 10,000 ha in Mu Cang Chai and Tram Tau districts.
For forest development, the seedling production will be promoted based on tissue technology, cuttings and high yielding and high quality seedlings for afforestation. To apply science and technology for intensive plantation of paper raw material trees and big timber business forests in service of capital construction.
