In recent years, people in Muong Lai commune have implemented the project of restructuring the crop and animal husbandry, Vinh orange trees are planted in the area of the commune. Vinh orange trees have become a strong plant, enriching many people here.
Vinh oranges in Muong Lai are harvested from September to November (lunar year). According to orange growers here, planting orange is not difficult, but requires strict adherence to the real. Each of the pole is used for 22 Vinh Oranges. After 3 years, oranges will give the first harvest. If fertilized well, orange trees can harvest continuously from 15 to 20 years to re-plant. Orange growers should pay special attention to fertilizers, mainly organic fertilizers, composts so that oranges flower and fruit well.
Vinh oranges in Muong Lai are planted mainly on hills and garden land. Farmers make good use of the technical process, therefore, oranges are big, nice, thin shells and orange juice is soft sweet and popular in the market.
Ms. Hoang Thi Thuy in Khau Quang village said: "Previously we had 2 poles of rice farming but due to lack of irrigation, we decided to plant Vinh oranges with 100 trees instead, last year we earned nearly 40 million VND form selling oranges. Although, this year, the price is low, we estimate to earn from 40 to 50 million VND. We found that Vinh oranges worth several times higher than that of rice phanting".
Muong Lai commune has a favorable climate and soil for citrus. At present, the commune has nearly 58 hectares of Vinh oranges, grown in many villages of Na Bo, Khau Quang, Na Cay, Na Khoang, in which the area for harvesting is over 28ha, the productivity is estimated at 80kg/tree .... According to the assessment, the orange crop this season is good, despite the lower cost, orange growers still have high incomes. It is estimated orange output in the whole crop in 2018 will reach more than 400 tons. Mr Hoang Van Moi, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Lai Commune, said: "Due to the good care, the quality of Vinh oranges is always sweet, thanks to this plant that the life of many households in the commune has changed significantly, many households are better-of from this crop. The local wants to be more interested in product consumption and price so that people here feel secure to stick with Vinh oranges".
Thanks to the braveness in change of crop structure, up to now, the development of the model of planting Vinh Oranges in the direction of commodity in Muong Lai has really brought about a great source of income for the people; gradually improve the quality of life, socio-economic development, contributing to the implementation of national targets for building new rural areas.
