YBP - With over 15,000 hectares of water surface Thac Ba lake under management, Yen Binh district has encouraged and supported people to implement aquaculture models, contributing to increase income. The project to develop production linked to the value chain associated with the consumption of farmed fish products on Thac Ba lake has contributed to the annual increase of the annual production value of aquatic products in Yen Binh district by 31.5%, accounting for 21.5% of the structure of the local agricultural sector.
Yen Binh district has 20 communes and towns assigned to manage Thac Ba lake water surface. Over the past time, the district has paid attention to the comprehensive development of fisheries from farming, exploiting to protecting and developing fish products of Thac Ba Lake. The district has effectively deployed the province's support policy to aquaculture organizations and individuals in the area under the province's aquaculture development project. In addition to support policies, Yen Binh district is also implementing a value chain linked production development project associated with the consumption of farmed fish products on Thac Ba lake; at the same time, to encourage potential enterprises to participate in the production, processing and consumption of Thac Ba lake fish products.
Mr. La Tuan Hung - Head of Agriculture and Rural Development Department said: “The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development took the lead in building a certification mark for Thac Ba lake fish and certified the trademark of Thac Ba Lake fish - Yen Bai special food in 2019 by the Department of Intellectual Property - Ministry of Science and Technology. This is a good signal to open opportunities to exchange, associate, cooperate, invest in, develop high-tech applications, seek opportunities for cooperation and raising brand name of Thac Ba lake fish. which contributes to enhancing the product's value and at the same time supporting the creation of a sustainable link chain in product production - processing - consumption”.
Up to now, Yen Binh district has built 2 enterprises, 5 aquaculture cooperatives, effectively maintained 2,218 fish cages and over 234 ha of fish-net farming on Thac Ba lake. Fishery production in the first 3 months of 2021 reached 1,250 tons. The annual production value of aquatic products increases by an average of 31.5%, accounting for 21.5% of the proportion of the local agricultural sector.
To develop Thac Ba lake fish products in association with sustainable product consumption for fish farming organizations and individuals in the area, Yen Binh district is stepping up activities to connect supply and demand of fish products. In the immediate future, it is to support organizations and individuals to establish Thac Ba Lake Fisheries Association to act as an agency to connect supply and demand, and to organize production associated with product consumption; to elaborate planning on aquaculture zones in association with lake ecological protection; to coordinate with T & T scientific service application and research joint stock company to implement the policy of supporting the development of associated seafood production in the value chain in the period 2021 - 2025; to build factories for preliminary processing, preservation and processing of aquatic products in the district with a total investment of 15 billion VND.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Truong - Chairman of Yen Binh District People's Committee said: “Turning potentials into strengths, Yen Binh district sets a target of striving to develop over 2,500 fish cages on Thac Ba lake by 2025, the exploiting output reaches over 9,200 tons, of which 50% of the output is processed for export; strive to increase the average income per hectare of aquaculture to 300 million VND/year, effectively contributing to poverty reduction, making Yen Binh a new rural district by 2025".
