Not only bringing high economic efficiency to the people, OCOP products also contribute part to accelerate the hunger eradication and poverty reduction in Yen Bai.
Promote rural economic development
Cinnamon is considered as "green gold" to help Dao people in Van Yen district escape poverty. Especially after the products made from cinnamon are certified OCOP products, the income from cinnamon has helped many Dao households have a well-off life. Van Yen is currently the largest cinnamon-growing locality in the country with a total area of over 50,000 hectares, on average, each year Van Yen sells about 6,000 tons of dried cinnamon bark, 63,000 tons of cinnamon leaf branches, 300 tons of cinnamon essential oil, bringing in over 700 billion VND in revenue.
For the Mong people in Suoi Giang commune, Van Chan district, over the years, hundreds of years old Shan Tuyet tea trees have become the main source of income. After the Tuyet Son Tra product of Suoi Giang Tea Cooperative was certified with 4-star OCOP at provincial level, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development recognized it as a typical OCOP product in extremely difficult areas in the period 2018 - 2020, the Mong people here are more determined to preserve and protect tea trees, change the perception of planting and organic care.
The initial success of the OCOP Program has contributed to promoting rural economic development, raising the level of typical Yen Bai products.
