On January 30th, the People's Committee of Yen Binh District solemnly held the Ceremony to announce the Decision and receive the Certificate of National Relic rating of Thac Ba Temple, opening the Thac Ba Temple Festival Spring Quy Mao 2023.
The relics of Thac Ba Temple have existed for a long time, associated with the rite of worshiping the Mother of Princess Minh Dat - the daughter of the 18th King Hung Vuong. Previously, Thac Ba Temple is a small Thac Ba temple, often called "Temple of God Thac Ba", located on the east bank of Chay River, in the territory of Minh Phu commune (now Thac Ba town), Yen Binh district, province.
In the early 60s of the twentieth century, the Party Central Committee and the Government decided to build Thac Ba hydropower plant - the first key project of the North in the process of industrialization and socialism. To carry out the construction of a hydroelectric power plant, the first important task was to carry out the relocation of population, along with all socio-economic - cultural - social institutions out of the reservoir area, including Thac Ba Temple.
In April, 1963, people in Minh Phu commune voluntarily took the Mother to Vinh Kien commune (across the Chay River), 5km from the old Thac Ba temple location to clear the ground for the construction of Thac Ba hydropower reservoir. In 1999, the People's Committee of Yen Bai province approved the rebuilding project of Thac Ba temple on Hoang Thi mountain. After many times of renovation and embellishment, Thac Ba temple has the present appearance.
With the confirmed historical, cultural and scientific values, on December 28, 2004, the People's Committee of Yen Bai province decided to rank Thac Ba temple (Thac Ba town) as a provincial relic.
On June 18th, Ministry of Culture, Sport and Tourism issued Decision No. 1905 recognizing Thac Ba Temple as a National relic belonging to the National historical and scenic site of Thac Ba Lake.
The recognition of Thac Ba temple as a national relic is a great honor and pride for the entire Party Committee, government and people of ethnic groups in Yen Binh district, especially for the resident ethnic communities who have lived for a long time in Thac Ba - Chay river area. This is a great source of motivation to encourage the Party Committee, authorities and people of ethnic groups in Yen Binh district and Yen Bai province to raise the sense of responsibility in preserving and promoting the values of ethnic culture in general in the district. Along with the cultural heritages of the people of ethnic groups in Yen Bai province that have been honored, the National Monument of Thac Ba Temple belonging to the historical and scenic Thac Ba Lake will be a great addition to the treasure of cultural heritages of ethnic groups in the province.
After the ceremony is the festival of Thac Ba Temple with many atracting activities, including folk games: Throwing Con, cockfighting, wrestling, swinging, boat racing, stick pushing… The forms of cultural activities have made the festival of the people in the lower Chay river more lively and really a place for cultural exchange between ethnic groups in the region.
