YBP- On June 6, delegation of Yen Bai province led by Mr. Do Duc Duy - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee attended the Greater Mekong Subregion Economic Corridor (GMS) , held in Kunming City, Yunnan Province, China.
Mr. Do Duc Duy had a speech at the forum.
There are twenty leaders of cities and province of China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanma, Thailand and Vietnam attending the forum, in addition the leaders of Yunnan – the host of the forum.
Having speech at the Forum, Mr. Do Duc Duy - Chairman of Yen Bai People's Committee introduced the potential and advantages of Yen Bai province such as: conveniently located on economic corridor Con Minh - Lao Cai - Ha Interior - Hai Phong; abundant natural resources; unique tourist resources; the area of land for agriculture, forestry and aquaculture accounts for 85.4% of the total area of natural land.
In addition, Yen Bai has abundant human resources with 520 thousand people at the working age, in which the proportion of trained workers accounts for 51%; The average annual growth rate of GRDP is around 7% per year.
At the forum, the chairman of the provincial People's Committee affirmed that Yen Bai will give priority to attracting investment in the fields of hi-tech agriculture, sustainable forestry development; deep-processing industries for minerals, processing agricultural, forestry and fishery products, supporting industries, hi-tech industries; tourism services, transportation, logistics and finance - banking.
Chairman of Yen Bai Provincial People's Committee Do Duc Duy proposed two investment projects under the theme of the Forum, including The investment project on building a cinnamon-intensive factory with a total investment of $ 30-35 million, an expected capacity of 10,000 tons of raw material cinnamon and more than 20,000 tons of products per year; The project on investing high quality vegetable and fruit in Yen Bai province with total estimated investment of 13 million USD, expected capacity of 20,000 tons /year, serving domestic demand and export.
On the sidelines of the Forum, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Do Duc Duy met and discussed with Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phat, the governor of Yunnan Province, to propose some areas for cooperation between the two sides. Yen Bai can send staff, especially young cadres to study and learn your experience in state management, social management, new rural construction, urban development management , business management of small and medium enterprises …
On social and environmental issues, Vietnam has joined the GMS since 1992 that brought positive effects on economic development and poverty reduction. GMS projects in Vietnam have a size of about $ 6 billion, accounting for about 30% of total GMS loans/grants at the end of 2017. Of which transport accounted for 87%; urban development 7.9%; health and social protection 2.7%; agriculture and natural resources 3.7%; industry and trade 0.4%.
GMS was originated in 1992 with the assistance of ADB with the paticipation of Cambodia, Laos, Myanma, Thailand, China and Vietnam.
The GMS co-operation strategy is based on three pillars, including infrastructure connectivity, improving competitiveness and raising public awareness of addressing social and environmental issues.
